The upper Scioto River begins in west central Ohio and flows southeast to the confluence of the Olentangy River in Columbus, Ohio. Over 1000 square miles of drainage flows into the upper Scioto River watershed before completing its journey to the Ohio River. At more than 231 miles in length, the Scioto River is one of the largest rivers in the state.

Although the upper Scioto River watershed is rich in Native American history, very little of the the river's natural features remain intact, as outdated agricultural practices, along with urbanization continue to have severe impacts on the Scioto River and its tributaries.

Impacts from agriculture and urbanization are regarded as our biggest challenge yet. How we use the land and the runoff it creates determines the quality of our water.

Since its inception as a nonprofit organization in 1991, the Scioto River Valley Federation has been an advocate in promoting public involvement and responsible management of the upper Scioto River watershed.

Ohio's watersheds and wetlands are some of the most valuable resources we share. They are a part of our heritage and part of our children's future that we must protect if they are to endure.

To this effort, we remain dedicated.
